It’s been over 400 years since London’s Rose Theatre first hosted audiences to enjoy Shakespeare’s plays.

The Rose Theatre remained their home until the Globe was built some 13 years later.

In summer 2018, Europe’s first ever pop-up Shakespearian theatre is coming to the historic city of York as Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre takes residence for a 10-week season allowing audiences to experience the plays in their original setting.

The theatre will combine state-of-the-art scaffolding technology, corrugated iron and timber to recreate the historic 13-sided design of the 16th century theatre. It will house an audience of over 900 people with 600 seats on three tiered balconies around an open-roofed courtyard and standing room for 300. Surrounded by a pop-up Shakespeare Village, which will showcase the best of Yorkshire’s food and drink, wagon performances and other forms of Elizabethan entertainment, this will be one of the must-attend cultural events of the summer.

Four of the Bard’s greatest plays – Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet and Richard the Third – will be performed by two companies of actors and be directed by West End-renowned Lindsay Posner and the York Theatre’s Oliver Award-winning team.

Ticketmaster have partnered with Lunchbox Productions as their main agent to provide our full spectrum of services including online and onsite box office provision and access control.

Tickets to Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre are available now here.
